Responsibilities

The Highway Department is responsible for the 33 miles (center lane) of Town Roads. In addition, the Department has an agreement with the County to provide some maintenance to 1 mile of County Highways for which it is reimbursed. The Department also provides sanding and snow removal for the Lake George Central School, for which it is reimbursed by the School.

There are 11 staff members in this department. The equipment inventory includes 6 dump trucks, 2 patrol trucks, 3 pick up trucks, a grader, back hoe, vibratory roller, loader, leaf vac, compressor, portable generator, steam jenny, and 2 street sweepers.

The Highway Department conducts Clean up campaigns in both the spring and fall. During the designated times the Department picks up lawn waste such as leaves, grass, and shrubs which is placed by residents along the road. The times of such programs is publicized in the Post Star. 

Although the Department has regular hours, it is ready on notice to respond to weather and other emergencies.

Public Notice of Roads Closed

Highways in the Town of Lake George are closed to any vehicles with a gross weight in excess of 1 & 1/2 tons per wheel, under Article 40, Section 1650 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. This order shall be in force from March 13, 2017 to May 12, 2017. Permits may be acquired at Town Highway Dept. at 22 Gage Rd, between the hours of 6:00am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday.

Spring Cleanup

NOTICE

TOWN OF LAKE GEORGE CLEAN-UP

APRIL 24, 2017 TO MAY 26, 2017

There will be a “SPRING Clean Up” pick up by the Highway Dept.

Leaves do NOT have to be bagged but must be free of stones, rocks, and

debris and will not be picked up if they contain these items.

However, if bagged a paper Biodegradable bag must be used.

Brush must be tied in bundles so that one man can handle them and

no longer than eight foot and no more than 3 inches in diameter.

NO pick up of solid refuse such as refrigerators, stoves, etc.

THERE WILL BE NO ROADSIDE PICK UP OF ABOVE DEBRIS AFTER

MAY 26, 2017

Leaves and brush may be taken to Transfer Station, Transfer Rd. Lake George

 by resident after MAY 26, 2017
