Responsibilities
The Highway Department is responsible for the 33 miles (center lane) of Town Roads. In addition, the Department has an agreement with the County to provide some maintenance to 1 mile of County Highways for which it is reimbursed. The Department also provides sanding and snow removal for the Lake George Central School, for which it is reimbursed by the School.
There are 11 staff members in this department. The equipment inventory includes 6 dump trucks, 2 patrol trucks, 3 pick up trucks, a grader, back hoe, vibratory roller, loader, leaf vac, compressor, portable generator, steam jenny, and 2 street sweepers.
The Highway Department conducts Clean up campaigns in both the spring and fall. During the designated times the Department picks up lawn waste such as leaves, grass, and shrubs which is placed by residents along the road. The times of such programs is publicized in the Post Star.
Although the Department has regular hours, it is ready on notice to respond to weather and other emergencies.

There will be a “Fall Clean Up” pick up by the Highway Department Leaves DO NOT have to be bagged, however, if bagged, a paper biodegradable bag must be used.
Leaf piles that contain stones and other debris will NOT be picked up.
Brush must be tied in bundles so that one man can pick them up and no longer than eight foot in length and no greater than 5 inches wide.
NO pick up of solid refuse such as refrigerators, stoves, etc..

THERE WILL BE NO ROADSIDE PICK UP ON LAKESHORE DRIVE OR STATE ROUTE 9L
Leaves and brush can be taken to the Transfer Station on Transfer Road by residents after November 29, 2019.
