Responsibilities

The Highway Department is responsible for the 33 miles (center lane) of Town Roads.  The Department has an agreement with the County to provide some maintenance to 1 mile of County Highways for which it is reimbursed. The Department also provides sanding and snow removal for the Lake George Central School, for which it is reimbursed by the School.

There are 13 staff members in this department. 


The Highway Department conducts Clean up campaigns in both the Spring and Fall. During the designated times the Department picks up lawn waste  (leaves, grass and small brush piles) which are placed by residents along the road. The time frame for the clean ups are placed on this website and published in The Post Star and on the Town facebook page.

Although the Department has regular hours, it responds to weather and other emergencies.  

 

NOTICE

TOWN OF LAKE GEORGE SPRING CLEAN-UP

APRIL 20, 2020-MAY 22, 2020

There will be a “Spring Clean-Up” pickup by the Highway Department. Leaves do NOT have to be bagged but must be free of stones, rocks and debris. The leaves will not be picked up if piles contain these items.  If leaves are bagged a paper biodegradable bag must be used. Brush must be tied in bundles so that one man can handle them and must be no longer than 8 feet and no more than 5 inches in diameter. There will be NO pick up of solid refuse such as refrigerators, stoves, etc.

THERE WILL BE NO ROADSIDE PICK UP OF DEBRIS AFTER

MAY 22, 2020

THERE WILL BE NO ROADSIDE PICK UP ON LAKESHORE DR OR STATE RT 9L.

Leaves and brush can be taken to the Transfer Station, Transfer Rd, Lake George by resident after MAY 22, 2020.
