Responsibilities

The Buildings and Grounds Department has responsibility and charge of the physical properties of the Town of Lake George.

These include the buildings: Town Center, Court House, Highway Office, Veterans Corner and the Senior Center.

Other properties include Usher Park and Beach, Diamond Point Beach, and the cemeteries: Caldwell, North Caldwell, Jones, Leffingwell, Old North Caldwell, Steiglitz Property, and Richards.

Energy Benchmarking

In November 2016, the Town Board adopted the Town of Lake George Energy Benchmarking Policy. The Policy requires the Town to record and publish energy usage for all public buildings over 1,000 square feet in size. Each annual report must be published by in May, detailing the previous 12 months of energy usage before it. Please find the Policy attachment below, as well as the relative annual reports.

Tree Care

The Buidings and Grounds department is committed to preserving and maintaining public and shade trees at both Town properties, and within the Town's Gateway Corridor. This commitment is being memorialized in the form of potential Tree City USA certification, which is pending with the Arbor Day Foundation as of April 2021. The certification for Tree City requires a "tree care ordinance" and a Tree Board, which the Town is working to complete adoption of. The proposed draft Tree Care Ordinance can be found below, and designates the Go Green Committee as the acting Tree Board for the Town of Lake George.

American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance

Since late 2016, the Buildings and Grounds staff has been working with the Town Planning Department, the Warren County Planning Department and the Adirondack-Glens Falls Transportation Council on developing an ADA Transition Plan, which will identify deficiences/impediments for ADA access in/at public buildings and on/at pedestrian facilities. The plan with also detail suggested improvements to be made to address these deficiencies, and potential costs and time frames for the improvements, in order to adhere to the ADA. The Town has since adopted a “Grievance Policy” and a Town “ADA Policy”, both of which are below.
