Lake George Pursues DRI/NY Forward Funding and
Invites Community Engagement through Open House Event

Lake George, NY – June 5, 2023 – Lake George is embarking on an ambitious endeavor to secure the prestigious NY Forward/Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) funding, aimed at propelling the community into a new era of sustained prosperity. As part of this effort, the town has scheduled an Open House event to foster public engagement and gather valuable input from the community.

Governor Hochul's Downtown Revitalization Initiative and NY Forward are state programs specifically designed to facilitate the transformation of community centers and drive economic development throughout New York State. These programs allocate funds to various communities across the state, and Lake George is determined to become the recipient in the Capital Region.

The downtown area of Lake George has already witnessed significant positive changes, with private investments and the establishment of new businesses, as well as the restoration of sidewalks along Canada Street. Additionally, notable public improvements have been made to the Charles R. Wood Environmental Park, the Lakefront Walkway and the Route 9 Gateway Corridor in the Town. “We truly feel this money will continue recent momentum and help Lake George realize its full economic potential in the downtown area, and hopefully bring about more positive change to further encourage a year-round community”, said Lake George Planning and Zoning Director Dan Barusch.

In order to craft a compelling application, the village and town are actively seeking input from the public. To facilitate this collaborative process, an Open House event has been organized, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 14th, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The event will be held at the newly renovated Carriage House, located at 48 Canada Street within the historic Fort William Henry Hotel. All community members, business owners and visitors are encouraged to attend and participate in learning about the NYS DRI and NY Forward programs, sharing project ideas, and expressing their vision for Downtown Lake George.
